Here are some options for getting creative with your squares: Instead of cutting all the squares in various fabrics, try using cloth dinner napkins, which are available in a variety of fabrics and colors. Scour antique stores and flea markets and incorporate vintage handkerchiefs into your selection of fabrics. Your skirt can be made with a combination of fabric squares, napkins, and handkerchiefs for a unique look. For an interesting effect, don't finish the ends of your fabric squares. Instead of hemming, measure in about 1/4" and stitch around the outside of the square. Then pull your threads slightly and allow for natural fraying.
